Join us on the Bluff from March 7-15 for nine days of unique Spring Break activities! Each day features a different program from 10am-2pm inspired by the 19th-century immigrant's journey to Texas.
Step into the shoes of an early settler coming to Texas and practice the skills needed to succeed in your new life.
On Saturday, March 7th, discover how immigrants prepared for the long journey to Texas. How did they choose where to settle? What items did they need to bring? Practice packing your trunk and explore early Texas guide books.
Be sure to pick up a Spring Break Passport booklet for your journey. Earn stamps for attending programs for a chance to win prizes!
This event is presented as part of Texas America250, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
On Sunday, March 8th, test your luck and skills in an interactive game inspired by the journey taken by German immigrants across Texas! Manage supplies, health, & hardships as you travel to a new home.
On Monday, March 9th, explore what early life was like in La Grange with fun hands-on activities! What foods did you eat? What daily chores would you do?
This program is in partnership with the Historic Faison House.
On Tuesday, March 10th, try your hand at a few historic tasks and skills! What livelihood will you choose in your new homeland - a farmer, a stonemason, or maybe a baker?
Early life in Texas wasn't all work and no play! On Wednesday, March 11th, learn how German immigrants brought traditional pastimes with them by playing some fun historic games.
On Thursday, March 12th, celebrate Civics Week by exploring citizenship in H. L. Kreische's time. Do you have what it takes to become a U.S. citizen in the 19th century? Test your skills and sign your oath to the States!
On Friday, March 13th, join a traditional German verein (club) party on the Bluff! Help us churn a batch of ice cream - the 19th-century way!
On Saturday, March 14th, learn how German immigrants preserved their culture & customs! Participate in the daily tradition of kaffee und kuchen (coffee & cake) while practicing some Texas-German vocabulary. Grab some hot cocoa if coffee isn't your thing.
On Sunday, March 15th, trace your family origins through a fun genealogy activity, and practice conducting a family history interview! Discover the legacy left behind by early Texas immigrants.

Celebrate the history of the Bluff Schuetzenverein, a German marksmanship and social club that once made its home on the Bluff at Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites. Toast to 250 years of America’s independence at a site filled with Texas history!
