Spring Break on the Bluff: Embroidery

Hallo, Frühling! Spring is in the air at Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill, and what better way to celebrate a break from school than outdoors at the sites! Come up to the Bluff from March 11-19 and take part in one of our many crafts and activities. Each day will include a different educational activity.

Embroidery: Handkerchiefs in the 19th century were an essential accessory to men and women and were used for purposes of personal hygiene and social etiquette. Oftentimes these handkerchiefs would be personalized with embroidered designs and initials on their corners, making them truly unique. 

Learn how to embroider from our staff with a special German-Texan-inspired design and your own initials sewn into the corner. Take your hand-embroidered handkerchief home and show off your skills to your friends and family! 

The Bluff Schuetzenverein Frisch Auf! flag is a wonderful example of skilled embroidery from the 19th century.
